Abstract

813,639. Resilient mountings and their assembly. SILENTBLOC Ltd. Feb. 28, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 7062/56. Class 108(3) A flexible support comprises a piece of flexible resilient material A having a hole extending through it engaged by a stud C<SP>3</SP> comprising a rod portion and spaced annular shoulders C', C', secured to the rod portion at each end of the hole, the material A surrounding the hole being circumferentially stretched to grip the stud C', and axially compressed between the shoulders C\ C<SP>2</SP>. The material may be bonded to the stud B. The ring may alternatively be of rectangular shape in crosssection (Fig. 4, not shown), or of a diamond shape (Fig. 5, not shown). The interior of the ring may be filled with felt, sponge rubber, a viscous material, or silicone rubber. The shoulders C<SP>1</SP>, C' may be clamped by means of nuts on the stud B instead of being integral as shown. In a further modification (Fig. 8, not shown), the ring A is elongated so as to be in the form of a tube and a plurality of studs B are spaced along the axial length of the tube on diametrically opposed sides. The ring A, in another form, is of elongated oval cross-section (Fig. 7, not shown) and there are two studs B on either side of the ring. The mountings may be assembled in the ring of Fig. 1 by means of a mounting F (Fig. 13) which has a vertically extending portion of semi-circular channel section. This is engaged with one-half of the bore of the ring A, as shown, while a tapered leader member G having a stud B screwed to its wide end, is engaged with the hole on the other side of the ring A. The member G is then turned into a vertical position by distorting the ring A, and the shoulder C<SP>2</SP> is engaged by a punch F' (Fig. 15) which drives the member G through the hole into the ring A until the stud B is in position, the other side of the ring A coming into abutment with a shoulder F<SP>1</SP> of the support F. The process is then repeated for the other hole in the ring A. In another method (Fig. 17), both studs are inserted in their respective holes in the ring A in a single operation. While the ring A rests on a rubber block H, a tapered leader member J carrying both the studs B is forced through the two holes of the ring A by means of a punch K.
