Abstract

813,056. Trigger mechanism. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. March 7, 1957 [March 7, 1956], No. 709.6/56. Class 119 A trigger mechanism for an air rifle incorporating a spring-loaded piston that can be cocked and released comprises a sear 11 and a pawl 23 pivoted for independent movement on a carrier plate 13 which is pivoted to the breech body of the firearm; the sear being capable of independent movement relative to the carrier plate only when not engaged by the pawl. The pawl engages the sear to lock it in its holding position and the pivotal points 17, 25 and 15 of the plate, pawl and sear are so disposed that on release of the sear by the pawl the former is moved out of engagement with the piston vent 9 by the urge of the piston spring 5. Springs 39 and 33 are provided for the sear and the pawl respectively and the effect of the spring 33 on the pawl can be adjusted by turning a screw 37. A trigger 29 has an oversize hole 26a working on a pivot 26 on the pawl and can be adjusted angularly or locked by a screw 41. The plate pivot 17 lies within a line prolonging the inner periphery of the piston tube 1 whilst the sear pivot 15 is lateral to the tube.
