Abstract
811,970. Spotlight lenses. KLIEGL BROS. UNIVERSAL ELECTRIC STAGE LIGHTING CO. Inc. May 13, 1957 [May 17, 1956], No. 15131/57. Class 75(2) A spotlight lens for producing an oval beam in which the ratio of the height to the width of the oval remains constant for all positions of the light source relative to the lens, comprises a substantially flat plate of glass 1 having on the light incident face a system of arcuate ridges 8 concave towards one diameter of the lens, each ridge forming part of at least one negative lens surface, and on the light emergent face a system of concentric annular ridges 12 each forming part of a positive lens surface. The radii of curvature of the ridges 8 may increase progressively from the inmost ridges outwards. A surface 10 free from ridges may be provided between the inmost ridges and this surface and that of the wider ridges may be provided with shallow flutes 11. The portions 14 of the lens between the annular ridges 12 may be coated with opaque paint.
