Abstract

The invention comprises quaternary ammonium oestrone sulphate salts in which alkyl radicals are attached to the quaternary nitrogen atom, or one or two alkyl radicals and a radical which together with the quaternary nitrogen atom forms a heterocyclic ring are attached to the quaternary nitrogen atom, and the preparation thereof by reacting oestrone sulphate with the required quaternary ammonium base. The heterocyclic ring, as specified, may include at least one further hetero atom such as nitrogen, or oxygen, and the alkyl radicals may contain a hydroxyl substituent. In the examples, the following compounds are prepared: the N-(b -hydroxyethyl)-N-methyl morpholinium, N,N - dimethyl - morpholinium, tetramethyl - ammonium, N - methyl - pyridinium, N - b - hydroxyethyl - N - methyl - piperidinium, and N - b - hydroxyethyl - N - methyl-pyrrolidinium salts of oestrone sulphate. The b -hydroxyethyl-trimethyl-ammonium salt of oestrone sulphate is also referred to.
