Abstract

810,649. Control of motors. COLLINS RADIO CO. July 29, 1957 [Sept. 13, 1956], No. 24000/57. Class 38 (3). In a remote control system for an electric motor 76, a motor-driven shaft 79 is actuated to a position in accordance with the selected adjustment of a control knob 40 which is coupled to the rotors 26, 36 of a control switch 20 and an earthing switch 30, respectively. The adjustment of the control knob to its fourth position, for example, aligns switch-notch 27 with stator contact 24, and engages stator contact 23 with rotor 26. This establishes a circuit from power source 29 to energize the motor through contact 57 whereby the motor starts to drive the output shaft 79 and to rotate the switch-rotors 56, 66. When the contacts 53, 57 are disengaged, the motor circuit is maintained through contacts 63, 67 so that resistor 73 reduces the motor speed. After further rotation of the shaft 79, contact 67 engages both contacts 63, 64 the latter being earthed through resistor 74 and contact 34, whereby the motor is shunted by the resistor for further reduction of speed. Shortly thereafter, contacts 63, 67 disengage and the motor is disconnected from the power source. As the motor continues to rotate under its momentum, contact 57 engages stator contact 54 and both sides of the motor are earthed to obtain a quick stop. Specification 660,939 is referred to.
