A remote control device comprises a transmitter 147 consisting of a manually-rotated contact arm 158 engaging contacts 148, 155, and a receiver having corresponding contacts 162- 169 engaged by a contact arm 170 mounted on the shaft 10 of a follow-up motor having a rotor 6. The slip-rings 99, 100 of this motor are connected to the contact arms, either directly so as to allow a circulating current if the motor has a rotating stator field, or through a battery 28 if the motor is of D.C. type. A modification is described having auxiliary contacts selectively engaged by the motion of the transmitting contact arm for selectively energizing the rotors of two machines on the same shaft providing rotation in both directions. Additional contact arms may be provided for automatic braking in the case of overshoot.
