[Also in Group XXV] A motor fan unit 20 is resiliently supported within a vacuum cleaner tubular housing 10 by a mounting which includes a resilient diaphragm 16 mounted on the unit and provided adjacent its radially outer edge with a locking ring 93 having alternate radially extending projections 95 and recesses complementary to those formed on the inner periphery of a radially inwardly projecting rib 12 secured to the housing inner surface; the unit, after being passed partially through the opening formed by rib 12 and then so angularly displaced that the projections are opposite one another, is secured by screws 94 which clamp the ring projections 95 and the diaphragm 86 about opposite, faces of the rib 12. The pressure exerted by screws 94 is distributed by a ring 97 seated under their heads; the screws furthermore clamp between a U-fold in the diaphragm 86 a ring 90 to the inner portion of which lugs 88 integral with the motor housing 87 arc secured to opposed pairs of conical springs 85 compressed by shouldered screws 89 and spacer sleeves 91, nuts 92 securing the screws to the ring 90. The diaphragm 86, preferably of rubber, has an axial flange 98 to electrically insulate the mounting from the housing 10 and a part 99 and another axial flange 100 to form an air-sealing partition extending between the unit and the housing 10 to force all the air drawn in by the fan to pass through the motor housing.
