Abstract

348,700. Motor supports. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London. -(Assignees of Inventia Patent-Verwertungs-Ges.; 10, Herrenacker, Schaffhausen, Switzerland.) Feb. 18, 1930, No. 5410. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1929. [Class 35.] To minimize noise and vibration in a vacuum cleaner having a motor and fan unit within an outer casing, a spring mounting is arranged between the unit and casing so as to allow yielding movement of the unit in all directions about its centre of gravity. These mountings are applicable to cleaners with horizontal or vertical axes and may be arranged to insulate the unit electrically from the casing. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the motor 27 and fan 28 are supported by pairs of conical springs 31 bearing on a ring 29 on the motor casing and two angle rings 32, 33 secured to the cleaner casing. Bolts 34 on the axes of the springs may be used to limit the movement of the unit during transport or in case of extreme mechanical shock. The ring may be of metal or oscillation-damping material, such as rubber, and it may, alternatively, be replaced by a number of lugs on the motor casing. Fig. 3 shows a form in which the unit is carried in a resilient ring 41 within the cleaner casing by the flexible bolts 38 which secure the endplates 36 of the motor casing. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 5, the unit is suspended in a plane passing substantially through its centre of gravity by compression springs 44 bearing at one end in cups 45 on the motor casing and at the other in depressions 46 in the cleaner housing optionally provided with insulating inserts 48. Reference is made to the resilient mounting of a fan unit by means of one or more resilient members which are always under tensile stress, as described in Specification 341,241. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the following:-(i) A Cardan suspension for the motor fan unit 1, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), comprising a ring 17 and pivots 16, 18. The suspension either wholly or in part may be of resilient material, the pivots, for example, being of rubber. (ii) A form, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), in which the unit is bolted at 24 to a resilient diaphragm 22 of metal, rubber or other material secured peripherally at 25 to angle members 26 in the casing. (iii) A general claim for a vacuum cleaner having a motor-fan unit movably arranged within an outer casing so that the axis of the unit is self-adjusting in any direction. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
