Abstract

809,710. Pipe joints. LADISH CO. Nov. 7, 1956, No. 34052/56. Class 99(1). End faces of pipes 11, 10 are generally oblique to their axis with at least one face having an annular groove 19 or 20 extending parallel to the axis, corresponding inner portions 16, 18 of the faces extending normal to the axis and an interposed gasket 21 of synthetic rubber or other hard but resilient material having a thin oblique portion of frusto conical shape, a rib to fit in the groove and a portion 32 normal to the pipe axis and of less width than the rib. As shown, the gasket has a rib fitting in each groove and the joint is secured by a union nut 29 which urges the pipes 10, 11 together compressing the gasket 21 of which the inner marginal surface 32 is intially of greater diameter than the bores 27, 28 of the pipes. On compression the gasket is forced axially in the grooves 19, 20, the faces 22<SP>1</SP>, 23<SP>1</SP> are forced into parallelism and the inner part 24 is thinned out so that the inner face 32 deforms to a flush position with the bore of the pipes.
