809,477. Locking nuts &c. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. Nov. 19, 1956, No. 35337/56. Class 89(1) A split-ring lock-washer 20, Fig. 3, has a substantially uniform cross-section throughout its circumference and is twisted so that one edge, e.g., inner-edge 20a, is disposed in a plane substantially normal to the washer-axis, while a second edge, e.g. outer edge 28 is helical and lies wholly to one side of edge 20a. The washer may be assembled on a screw or a nut 12, Fig. 2, and is retained thereon by a flange 24 engaged by a flange 26 on the nut. The end-surfaces of the washer may have sharp projections which bite into the nut bearing-surface 16 and worksurface.
