Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0808950/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl (preferably lower alkyl), aralkyl or cycloalkyl group, and their preparation by reacting a metal salt of 3:4-dimethyl-5-sulphanilamido-isoxazole with an alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl haloformate, preferably in an organic solvent and in the presence of a tertiary nitrogen base. The metal salt of the sulphanilamido-isoxazole is preferably a heavy metal salt such as a lead or silver salt. Examples describe the reaction of the lead or silver salt of 3:4 - dimethyl - 5 - sulphanilamido - isoxazole with the appropriate chloroformic ester to give compounds of the above general formula in which R is an ethyl, methyl, octyl, benzyl and cyclohexyl group. Chloroformic esters used as starting materials such as the octyl, benzyl and cyclohexyl esters are made by the reaction of phosgene with the appropriate alcohol. 3:4 - Dimethyl - 5 - sulphanilamido - isoxazole silver and lead salts are made by the action of silver nitrate and lead sub-acetate respectively on the sulphanilamido-isoxazole in aqueous solution.
