Abstract

808,771. Moulding doll's heads. METTOY CO. Ltd. May 14, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1956], No. 4865/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XV] In the slush moulding or rotary casting of a hollow article having at least one tube integral therewith, at least one wire, rod, or other core member on which a tube may be moulded is positioned in the mould cavity and a layer of liquid moulding composition is deposited on the outer surface of the core member or members and on the surface of the mould cavity. In the moulding of a doll's head having a mouth opening 1 connected by two internal tubes 2 to points adjacent the eyes so that weeping may be simulated, there may be used a copper mould divided into two parts at a line 4-4, and having internal protuberances for forming the eye sockets 3 and the mouth cavity 5. A pair of wires are spigoted in recesses in the mould to connect points just above the eye sockets with the mouth-forming protuberance. The mould is then filled and slushed with a resin or other casting composition, and after setting the moulded article is removed from the mould and the wires withdrawn to leave tubes 2. Alternatively a doll's head having no neck opening may be produced by a rotary casting process.
