Abstract

807,956. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO. Ltd. Nov. 5, 1956 [Sept. 6, 1955], No. 25564/55. Class 135. The valve body 1 houses a spring-loaded plunger 4 embodying a valve closure 5 and a cam follower 6; the latter co-operates with an edge cam 10 having a stop 11, 12 at each end and a central nick 13. Fluid enters an inlet 2 and flows through a part of the helical groove 17 on the plunger before passing to the outlet 3. Upon moving a lever 9 about an offset pivot 18 to the position shown, the cam slides through a slot in the follower 6 until the stop 12 abuts the follower whereupon the plunger spring 8 forces the plunger 4 to its fully elevated position shown, which provides for " full flow " through the device. With the lever 9 centrally positioned the nick 13 engages the follower and the plunger 4 assumes a " low flow " position. Upon moving the lever 9 to the right towards the " off " position the valve 5 is caused to close the outlet 3 whilst continued lever motion results in the cam 10 rotating about a second pivot 20 against the action of a torsion spring 16 whereupon a cam abutment 21 moves away from a trimming screw 14 so that the spring 16 holds the valve 5 in the closed position. With the device in the " full flow " position the plunger may be removed for cleaning purposes. The fuel flow in either the " low " or " high flow " position may be varied by altering the relative disposition of the plunger and lever, or by adjusting the follower or the trimming screw. Specification 779,612 is referred to.
