Abstract

806,689. Tyre deflation indicators. LICHTENFELD, E. March 13, 1957, No. 8218/57. Class 144 (1). In a tyre deflation indicator of the kind comprising a support member 10 attached to the vehicle with a feeler member 14 depending therefrom to contact either the ground, or the bulged tyre sidewall, on tyre deflation, and to be moved thereby to close contacts 19, 24 on the support 10 and feeler 14 respectively to operate a warning signal, the feeler member 14 has a feeler element 12 attached thereto to be adjustable both longitudinally for height, and angularly about a horizontal axis at right angles to the tyre axis, with respect to the support 10 for selective operation either by the ground or by the tyre. As shown, the support 10 comprises an apertured strip for selective positional attachment to the vehicle and the feeler member 14 comprises a thin plate bolted to one face of the support 10 and backed by a spring strip 16. An additional spring strip 17 is bolted to the opposite face of the support 10 and carries the insulated contact 19 which is connected by a terminal 20 on a lead (not shown) to an earth return warning lamp. The strip 17 is spaced from the plate 14 by a rubber spacer 18, and the contacts 24 and 19 and the terminal 20 are protected by rubber housings 22, 23 respectively. A plate 25, having holes 30 arranged on an arc for selective engagement with a projecting rivet 31 on the plate 14, is clamped in the desired angular position by a hexagon-headed bolt 26, the head 28 of which is positively located in a complementarily-shaped recess 27 in the plate 25. The bolt passes through the plate 14 for engagement by a nut 32 and has a transverse hole 29 through its head 28 to receive slidably the shank of the feeler element 12, tightening of the nut 32 serving to clamp the element 12 against the plate 25 and to hold both in their set positions relative to each other and the plate 14. Angular adjustment of the element 12, which has a bulbous operative end 13, may be effected either by engagement of a different hole 30 in the plate 25 over the rivet 31, or by engagement of the bolt head 28 in a different angular position in the plate recess 27.
