Abstract

805,569. Copying-telegraphy. COMPAGNIE DES MACHINES BULL. Nov. 30, 1956 [Dec. 14, 1955], No. 36754/56. Class 40 (3). A cyclically-operated printing machine in which characters are formed by elements or dots printed by devices IMP-1, IMP-2, &c., each comprising five electromagnets A1-A5, connectable to a pulse generator PG formed by notched discs GA, GB, &c., and to a commutator DS which during a machine cycle successively connects the appropriate electromagnet into circuit. The pulse generator PG comprises one disc for each character and rotates once in each cycle. The disc GA has a sector 12, raised portions SA1, SA2, SA3, which make contact with a brush BA and if a letter A is to be printed relay contacts R11-8b are closed so that the pulses from positive is directed through the generator to line LC1, patch-cord CF, and through that electromagnet A1-A5 which has a path to negative through the commutator DS. During the time it takes the commutator DS to move from one constant to another, e.g. in the case of A, from C2 to C3 and C4 the paper is advanced an amount corresponding to the displacement in direction F1 of the printing elements F2-F4. The result is that the dots PT1, PT2, PT3 are printed in a horizontal line. The next section (13) of disc GA has raised portions at the first and fifth positions so that dots PT4 and PT5 are formed during passage of arm R of commutator DS over contacts C1 and C5. This process occurs for each of the seven rows of the character until the whole character is formed. The operating contacts R11-8b may be operated by a decoding device operated by punched cards. Each column of the card, Fig. 5, having eleven positions; figures being represented by a single perforation, and letters by a perforation in position 11-0-1 ... 6 and a perforation in position 7, 8 or 9.
