Abstract

1,274,279. Selective printing. SIEMENS A.G. 4 Sept., 1969 [5 Sept., 1968], No. 43741/69. Heading B6F. In a printing machine having a type carrier 6 or 11, Fig. 1 or 3, respectively, which is selectively set to position the required character in printing position and which is moved along the printing line in letter-space direction, the movements of selecting and letter-spacing are derived from a common belt 5 or 25. Type on endless bands.-In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, type 6 occupies one part of the belt 5 which is resiliently anchored through spring 7 to a carriage 2, is trained over pulleys 10, over pulley character setting aggregating pulleys in setting device 3, over letter-spacing carriage feed mechanism 4, and is fixed again on the carriage 2. The belt may be slotted centrally between rows of characters in order to achieve better printing. The belt may be raised and lowered so the matter printed can be read. Case-shift.-The pulleys 10 may also be raised so that one of two rows of types arranged one above the other on the type carrier 6 can be moved into printing position. Cylinder type-head machines.-As shown in Fig. 3, the type may be arranged on a cylinder 11 which is moved axially and rotatively by two belts 25 and (15).
