Abstract
803,642. Leg splints. TIPPER, K. Sept. 28, 1955 [June 29, 1954], No. 18964/54. Class 81 (2). A leg support, primarily for use on legs broken below the knee and encased in plaster, comprises two splint-like members 4 joined at their bottom ends by a transverse member 8. A lower extension 8a of this, passes into a slot 9 in a tubular piece 10 and is retained by plugs 11 which engage between shoulders 8b and 8c and are retained by further plugs 12 secured by pins 12c engaging bayonet slots 13. A loop of wire 3, to lie under the sole of the foot, has its two free ends passed through elongated slots 14 into diametrical bores in the plugs 11, where they are retained by grub screws 15. The angular movement of the member 3, permitted by the slots 14, is controlled by springs 16 fitted outside the tube 10 and engaging the transverse member 8 and sole member 3, so as to urge the toe in a downward direction.
