802,693. Frequency measuring apparatus. HOBSON, Ltd., H. M., and FELLOWS, H. Oct. 22, 1956 [Dec. 19, 1955], No. 36337/55. Class 40 (1). In apparatus for measuring the rate of generation of electrical pulses, the pulses are fed to a chain of frequency dividers and a selector switch enables a ratemeter to be connected to any desired divider of the chain. As shown, a liquid flowmeter of the kind described in Specification 752,496 comprises a rotor 1 in a conduit 2 which rotates at a speed proportional to the rate of flow of the liquid and which has in one or more of its vanes a magnet 3 arranged to pass close to a solenoid 4, the pulses produced therein being amplified at 5 and fed to a shaper 6 comprising a monostable flip-flop and associated differentiating circuit, the output of which, consisting of pulses of short duration, is passed, via a chain of four binary frequency dividers 7<SP>1</SP>-7<SP>4</SP> of the Eccles Jordan type, to the driver 9 of a counter 8, and a monostable flip-flop 11 with meter 12 in the anode circuit of its normally cut-off section, as described in Specification 798,507, is connected via a four-position switch 10 to the output of any one of the frequency dividers 7<SP>1</SP>-7<SP>4</SP>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 752,496.
