Abstract
801,210. Holders for thermionic valves. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 1, 1956, No. 6462/56. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XL (a)] A dust-proof enclosure for an electric discharge tube having at least one contact at each end comprises at least two sections made of insulating material which can be assembled together in an adjustable manner, and having sockets or contacts for engaging the tube contacts. The two sections 1 and 4 shown are made of polythene; they may be formed so as to screw together, but preferably an annular rib 7 is pushed into one of the annular grooves 8, according to the size of the enclosed tube. The upper section 1 carries a contact 2 for engagement with the top connection of the tube. The lower section 4 is moulded round a valve base 5 the pins of which are surrounded by a corona shield 16; this may be connected to one of the pins, if desired. An ancillary cap 11 may be used to close the bottom of section 4. Fig. 2 (not shown) is a modification in which the socket 5 and contact 2 are both in the same section of the enclosure, the cap 11 in this case forming the adjustable second section.
