Abstract

800,887. Stone sawing. CHERREAU, R. May 7, 1956 [May 10, 1955], No. 14144/56. Class 124. A method of sawing stone blocks by abrasive wires consists in disposing the working portion of each wire vertically, adjusting the length of the working portion as close as possible to the height of the block, and moving the working portion in a horizontal direction while the block remians stationary. As shown, a stone block is placed between two uprights 1, 2 carrying upper guide bars 10 and lower guide bars 5 on which are supported upper sliding brackets 8, 9 and lower sliding brackets 6, 7. The bars 10 are vertically adjustable so that pulleys 23, 27 supported on the brackets 8, 9 may be positioned close to the upper surface of the block. Abrasive wires pass over the pulleys 23, 27 and over pulleys 24, 28 on the lower brackets and also over tensioning and driving pulleys. The lefthand brackets 6, 8 and the right-hand brackets 7, 9 may be moved towards each other by wires wound on winches driven by a ratchet mechanism 40, 41 so that the block may be cut from both ends. The stone is supported at ground level and the lower pulleys 6, 7 are situated just below ground level. A single abrasive wire or two wires independently driven may be used.
