Abstract

A detergent composition is prepared by spraydrying a slurry containing, in addition to an organic synthetic detergent, a 2-allkyl-4 : 4-bis (hydroxymethyl) oxazoline of the general formula: <FORM:0800291/III/1> where R is an alkyl group of 9-13 carbon atoms. The oxazoline, which is generally present in an amount of 0.5-5 per cent of the non-aqueous ingredients of the slurry, is preferably that in which the alkyl group is n-hendecyl. The detergents which may be used include sec.-alkyl sulphates, alkane sulphonates, acyl taurides, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and condensates of ethylene oxide with alkylphenols, but preferably an alkylaryl sulphonate or a sulphonated fatty alcohol is used. Sodium carbonate, silicate, sulphate and condensed phosphates, sodium toluene sulphonate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, colouring agents and perfumes may also be incorporated.
