799,888. Valves. BOSCH GES., R. May 9, 1956 [May 14, 1955], No. 14351/56. Class 135. A butterfly valve in a high vacuum line comprises a tubular valve body 10, a closure plate 13 provided with lugs for loosely mounting it on a rock-shaft 19 and a clamping plate 15 fitted with guide pins 16 which pass through clearance holes in the plate 13 and are connected together by a bridge-piece 17. A cam 21 secured to the rock-shaft is provided with a bulge 21<SP>1</SP> which on clockwise rotation of the rock-shaft and with the valve plate in its open position, initially binds against the bridgepiece 17 to rotate the plates 13, 15 into their closed position and thence clamps the plate 15 against the plate 13 to compress an annular sealing ring 14 into sealing engagement with the valve body. On anticlockwise rotation of the rock-shaft from the closed position of the valve, pressure on the sealing ring is initially released and thence a shoulder 21<SP>11</SP> on the cam abuts the plate 13 to open the valve. A stop-plate 24 limits movement of the plates in a closing direction and the engagement of a lengthened bolt-head 25 with the stop-plate 24 limits movement of the plates in an opening direction.
