Abstract
799,884. Vulcanizing presses. GUHR, K., and HERBERT, A., [trading as HERBERT MASCHINENFABRIK, L.]. Nov. 10, 1955 [Dec. 8, 1954], No. 32236/55. Class 87(2). A multiple stage vulcanizing press with a stationary mould carrier 3 and a mould carrier 7 movable between a closed position in which it is parallel to the carrier 3 and an open position in which it is removed from and inclined to the carrier 3 has at least one more mould carrier 17 between the carriers 3 and 7 which, as the carrier 7 is moved into the closed position, is brought to a position parallel to the other two carriers. The mould carrier 17 is controlled by the drive means for the carrier 7 and both are guided by rollers 8, 9 in guides 5, 6 in the machine frame. The invention is characterized by the feature that the travel of the carrier 17 and of any additional intermediate carriers is that fraction of the travel of the carrier 7 which is determined by the formula o/n + 1, where n is the number of intermediate carriers and o is their ordinal or positional number as calculated from the carrier 3. Two pairs of toggle links 10, 11 between the walls 1 and 2 of the machine frame, with the lower links pivoted on a shaft 12, are operated by a motor 15 through a draw member 14 to move the mould carrier 7 from the open position, Fig. 1, to the closed position when the toggles are straightened. The intermediate mould carrier 17 is operated from the toggle links 11 through lifting rods 22, which are slotted at 23 to embrace pins 20, on the mould carrier, supported by transverse pins 24 which can be inserted at various heights in rows of holes 25. The pins 20 carry rollers 21 which are guided by bars 18, 19. Directly beneath the rollers 21 is a pair of rollers 30 which can also run in the guideway between the bars 18, 19, and which, in the open position, rest against the lower end of the bar 19 where it is curved at 26. The bar 19 can be adjusted in position and an indication given by a pointer 28 associated with a scale 29 on the wall 1. The upper mould carrier 3 can be adjusted upwards or downwards by a cam device 4. In the open position the mould carriers 7 and 17 are both tilted outwards for ease of access. The travel of intermediate mould carriers is dependent on the pivotal position along the links 11 of the ends of their lifting rods, e.g., with two intermediate mould carriers the upper moves through one-third of the distance and the lower through two-thirds. The lower mould half 33 is supported from the mould carrier 7 through cup springs 32, Fig. 3, which are adjustable so that in the last part of the closing movement the springs are flattened and the mould held closed by their pressure, to compensate for the unyielding nature of the drive.
