Abstract
798,790. Indicating and regulating liquid levels. HOYER, N. P. Sept. 19, 1956 [Sept. 24, 1955], No. 28654/56. Class 123(1) A liquid level indicating device especially for large storage tanks for petrol &c. comprises an endless flexible, perforated band 2 passing over pulley wheels 3, 4 located respectively at the top and bottom of the tank 10, a float 1 being secured in one run of the band so that movement of the liquid level causes the float to rise or fall and the band to rotate the wheels. The wheel 3 is supported by a lever 7 having a counterbalance 5 which is adjusted to give the required tension in the band 2, the rotary movements of the wheel 3 thus being independent of any movement of the tank top due to thermal expansion of the tank or deformation thereof by internal pressure. The rotary movement of the wheel 3 is transmitted by a shaft 8 and magnetic coupling 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, to a counting train 14 having electrical contacts the closing cf which by the movement of the train causes appropriate lamps to light on a remote panel 18 to indicate the level in the tank. A selector 16 on the panel 18 enables the latter to be used for a number of different tanks. The tank supply and discharge valves can be opened or closed and audible or visual signals actuated by causing relay circuits to be completed when a predetermined level has been reached, Fig. 3 (not shown).
