Classes 75(2) and 75(4) In an electric light fitting especially for street lighting which includes an elongated trough of transparent material supported from or integral with an opaque cover so that the trough is substantially horizontal in use, and means for supporting one or more lamps within the trough each with its axis substantially parallel to the length thereof, a transparent hollow enclosure member is sealed to or integral with the trough along each of the elongated sides from whicn light will be emitted in use of the fitting and contains one or more opaque louvres supported within the member so as to intercept light which would be emitted in a direction above the horizontal. In the form shown, the trough 2 of transparent synthetic resin (e.g. that known under the Registered Trade Mark "Perspex"), is carried by a metal e.g. die-cast aluminium, cover 3 and has a shallow bulge 4 over which is cemented a refractory plate 5 for directing the light downwardly. A hollow member 6 of the same material is cemented over the outside of the bulge and supports a louvre 7 held in a groove 10 in the member 6. The walls 8, 9 of the member 6 and the louvre 7 are perpendicular to the surface of the trough 2. The louvre may be of opaque material e.g. aluminium or may be rendered opaque by a coating of paint. A similar coating may be applied to the surfaces 8, 9. The under side of the louvre and of the surfaces 8, 9 may be made light reflecting. Each member 6 may be formed integrally with the trough, the louvres being inserted before the plates 5 are cemented in position.
