797,549. Mineral - mining machines. GEB. EICKHOFF, MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI. Sept. 8, 1955 [Sept. 11, 1954], No. 25713/55. Class 68(1) The cutter means of a mineral-mining machine are mounted ahead of the machine on a support 4, 17 secured to and projecting forward from a structure 3 which houses a power unit for driving the cutter means and which is so pivotally mounted on a carriage 1 about an axis 2 extending transversely of the direction of advance of the machine that the structure may be swung by means, e.g. jacks 8, 9, acting between the structure and the carriage to cause the cutter means to excavate a space into which the machine may be advanced. A shaft driven from the power unit and disposed within the boom 4 drives through bevel gearing a shaft projecting from the boom and carrying sprockets 5, 6. The sprockets 5, 6 drive cutter chains that circulate about sprockets secured to an axle of a drum cutter 7, the axle being rotatably mounted in the spaced arms of the extension 7 secured to the boom 4. An extension cutter or cutters may be detachably secured to one or both ends of the axle.
