Abstract
797,039. Screw-and-hut gearing. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Dec. 19, 1956 [Dec. 29, 1955], No. 38675/56. Addition to 785,188. Class 80 (3). An improvement in the invention of the parent Specification consists in providing only two rotor arms 64 pivoted on a common axis 70 substantially transverse to the axis of the rotor tube 40 between their ends, one end of each arm extending under the motor stator 12 to form the rotor and the opposite end of each arm carrying the means to engage the non-rotatable screw 18. The rotor arms are each shaped to provide a pair of poles and have each a pin 95 engaging in diametrically opposite holes in the outer race of a bearing 50 on the tube 40 so that movement of the two arms is equalized. The other ends of the rotor arms are formed of generally semi-circular shape to house the roller nuts 77 and are provided with recesses 78, 80 to receive compression springs 82 tending to disengage the coupling.
