796,843. Disc brakes. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Aug. 28, 1956 [Jan. 4, 1956], No. 26239/56. Class 103 (1). A brake disc comprises a plurality of circumferentially aligned arcuate segments 7, a radially directed relatively narrow neck 8 positioned between and joining each pair of adjacent segments, and extending between substantially the outer periphery of one segment and substantially the inner periphery of the adjacent segment so as to provide relatively free movement between the segments in a tangential direction and relatively limited movement in a radial direction. The narrow neck is formed by the metal between adjacent slots 3 and 5 extending from the outer and inner peripheries respectively. It is claimed that such a construction prevents dishing of the disc due to thermal stresses.
