Abstract
796,729. Fabric raising machines. HOBE, C. M. VON. Oct. 19, 1954 [Oct. 19, 1953], No. 30061/54. Class 42 (1). In a fabric raising machine, the tension of the fabric is controlled by adjustment of the ratio between the speeds of rotation of externally-driven conveying rollers 2, 4 in accordance with the fabric tension at a location between the rollers so as to keep the tension at a required value; roller 2 is located at the entrance to the machine and roller 4 at the end of the raising path (as shown) or between two raising sectors. Rollers 2, 4 may be driven by gearing from the drum 3 carrying the raising rollers, an infinitelyvariable gearing being included in the drive to roller 2 for speed control purposes. A fabric tensioning arm 11 carrying an adjustable weight 12 is maintained at a given position on a graduated scale by manual adjustment of the variable speed gearing or by automatic adjustment of the gearing through electrical contacts or a piezo crystal associated with arm 11. Alternatively a device responsive to a torque dependent on the fabric tension may be used to regulate the speed ratio of rollers 2, 4. Tension control may be applied at a number of different locations along the fabric travel; the tension in the second portion of the travel may be kept greater than in the first portion by adjustment of the speed ratio between the entrance roller and an intermediate roller and also that between the intermediate roller and the exit roller.
