Abstract

1,129,054. Belt-tensioning devices. LINSERTEXTILMASCHINEN, G.m.b.H. 13 Jan., 1967 [15 Jan., 1966], No. 2083/67. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division D1] Spinning &c. apparatus comprises a plurality of spindles driven tantentially by a primary endless belt 10, which also drives the delivery rollers by a secondary belt 60 through pulleys 14, 27 on a shaft 69; the tension in the primary belt is adjustable by movement of the shaft by a tension control device to change the position of the primary belt pulley 14, a constant tension being maintained in the secondary belt whatever the position of the tension control device. The primary belt 10 is trained around four pulleys, e.g. 14, 15 to drive spindles arranged in two banks on opposite sides of the machine, one of the pulleys being driven by the vertical shaft of a motor at the opposite end of the machine from that shown. The pulleys 14, 15 act as tensioners for the belt; to this end, they are on a carriage 17 movable along rails 19 when a threaded rod 22 is rotated by a handle 21. The shaft 69 of the pulley 14 carries a second pulley 27 and drives it as the primary belt is moved. Around the pulley 27 and pulleys 31, 35 is trained the secondary belt 60. The pulley 31 is operatively connected to one of the two delivery rollers (24, 25, Fig. 1, not shown) through a vertical shaft, bevels and reversing-gearing. The tension in the secondary belt causes the pulley 31 to be driven and is automatically maintained constant, whatever the position of the carriage 17, by pulleys 36, 37 on pivoted arms 39, 40. These may act internally as shown, or externally, of the belt; in the former case, the pulleys are urged apart by a compression spring 42; in the latter case, they are drawn towards one another by a tension spring 43, (Fig. 5, not shown). The arrangement ensures that the " drawn " portion 60 of the secondary belt is always straight, thus avoiding irregularities in the drive transmitted to the pulley 31. The direction of movement of the primary belt can be reversed by known means, when this is done the rollers are caused to rotate in the feeding direction by means of the reversing-gear included in its drive.
