Abstract
795,033. Wire tensioning means. LIMIT ENGINEERING GROUP, Ltd. Nov. 4, 1955 [Nov. 4, 1954], No. 31991/54. Class 120(2) A tensioning device for wire comprises a primary pad on to the periphery of which the wire is fed at a predetermined feeding point, the wire sliding around this pad to produce frictional drag, a secondary pad disposed adjacent the surface of the primary pad at a lead off point and arranged so that the wire leaving the primary pad passes around the secondary pad and a guide pad disposed adjacent to and resiliently urged into engagement with the primary pad at the feeding point, the wire being led between the guide pad and the primary pad so that pressure is exerted on the wire at the feeding point. In the embodiment shown, wire 39 from a storage reel (not shown) is led via a guide 38 and a guide pad 28 to the periphery of primary pad 14. The wire 39 is taken off the pad 14 via a second pad 21 the position of which is fixed but adjustable so as to vary the angle of wrap around the pad 14. The guide pad 28 is resiliently pressed against the periphery of pad 14 by spring 36 the tension' in which can be adjusted at 37. The pads may consist of a single felt disc clamped between side cheeks and having a peripheral groove for the wire if a single wire is being fed or a number of felt pads if a number of wires are being fed in parallel relationship. The angular position of the pads is adjustable so as to distribute wear evenly over their surfaces.
