Abstract
794,909. Holding and picking-up tools. TOLLEY, B. G. July 29, 1955 [Sept. 14, 1954], No. 26533/54. Class 61. [Also in Group XXX] A bottle carrier comprises a pair of relatively slidable plates 1, 2 each provided with a series of pear shaped holes 5 which, when the plates are in one position of adjustment, define openings through which bottle necks 8 can pass freely, but which are contracted, to cause the edges of the holes to engage and support the bottle neck, when the plates are moved to another position of adjustment. The major axis of the holes lies parallel with the direction of sliding movement of the plates, which movement may be either longitudinal or lateral and may be effected either manually or mechanically. In a modification (not shown) a spring is provided to urge the plates into the bottle gripping position. In another modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) a number of pairs of plates are combined so that all the bottles contained in a crate can be handled together. In a further modification, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) the surface of the plates is curved. The carrier may either be provided with a carrying handle or be incorporated in a bottle handling machine.
