Abstract
794,115. Laminates; coated water-impermeable sheets. SMITH & NEPHEW, Ltd., T. J. April 6, 1956 [April 6, 1955], No. 10026/55. Class 140. [Also in Group XXVIII] A pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet material consists of a water-impermeable flexible support carrying a coating of pressure-sensitive adhesive tacky rubber composition in which is embedded an open sheet of unwoven, non- oriented fibres of non-wicking material. The impermeable support may be of polyethylene or cellulose ester or ether or of a vinyl polymer or copolymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, or the copolymer of vinyl chloride and the vinyl ester of an organic acid and the fibres may be of glass, linear superpolyamides, superpolyesters or polythene and may be bonded together with, for example, polyvinyl chloride. The pressuresensitive adhesive may consist of a mixture of smoked sheet rubber, zinc oxide, colophony resin, hydrogenated abietic acid, polymerized trimethyl - dihydro - quinoline, wool fat and petroleum spirit. The material may be rolled up and may carry a protective sheath of stiffened gauze or scrim.
