Abstract
793,118. Agglomerating food powders; cocoa preparations. BLAW-KNOX CO. Oct. 5, 1955 [April 11, 1955], No. 28401/55. Classes 49 and 129. Agglomeration of powdered materials which become self-adherent when moistened, especially food products containing milk and sugar, e.g. skim, whole and malted milk powders, baby foods, cocoa powder preparations, cake and pancake mixes, is effected by producing two converging sheet-like jets of moistening fluid and passing the powdered material into the trough of turbulence in the region of the convergence. With the apparatus of Figs. 1 and 2, skim milk powder from a hopper 10 spills from the forward edge of a vibrating feeder 11 as a sheet into a V-shaped zone 12 formed by jets A and B of steam from slits 13 and 14; the agglomerates formed fall through the inlet 15 of a chamber 16 and are there subjected to warm air delivered through perforations 20 of an annular distributer 21 ; from the chamber 16 the agglomerates fall into a chamber 17, to be removed at the base thereof, and the warm air is drawn down the chamber 16 into the chamber 17 and removed therefrom by means of an exhauster 27.
