Abstract
791,863. Vehicle wheels. BURT BROS., Ltd., and NIGHTINGALE, K. May 4, 1955 [May 26, 1954], No. 15470/54. Class 144 (1). A detachable hub cap or cover disc 9 is mounted on a vehicle wheel by means, such as a screw or bayonet cap type fastening, co-operating with an opening in line with the wheel centre in a strap, spider, or cap member which is detachably fixed to the wheel by an apertured lug clamped against the wheel body by one or more of the circumferentially-spaced wheel-securing bolts and nuts 5, 8. The strap may be of inverted U-shape, as in Fig. 4, with apertured terminal feet 11 to locate over opposed wheel bolts and have a central aperture 13 in its base 12 to receive a bayonet-cap type fastener, captive on the disc 9, which engages a spring 15 secured across the aperture 13. The strap may be longitudinally arcuate for use where the wheel-securing bolts are not diametrically opposed. Alternatively the strap may be cranked as in Fig. 5, with a single securing foot or lug 11. Fig. 6 shows a cap member with an apertured peripheral flange 17 for attachment over the wheel bolts and an apertured crown 19, 20 to locate the disc 9. For screw fastening, the respective apertures 13, 20 may be tapped.
