Abstract
Tablets, granules and other bodies of compressed powdery material for pharmaceutical use and food products such as cubes of meat extract include from 0.5 to 15 per cent of their total weight of a cation exchange resin not containing silver ions. Preferably the resin is of particle size not less than about 30 B.S. mesh. Specified resins include carboxylic resins, sulphonated polyamine, phenolic, polystyrene and amine resins. They may be used in the acid or salt (sodium, potassium or ammonium) form as desired. Conventional additives such as starch, lubricants and wetting agents may also be incorporated in the tablets. In an example, a mixture of phenobarbitone, lactose, starch and gelatin is granulated and formed into tablets using magnesium stearate as lubricant and a carboxylic cation exchange resin such as that sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Amberlite" XE-88.
