Abstract
790,610. Percussive drills. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. June 22,1954 No. 19441/57. Divided out of 783,526. Class 124. A method of making a hollow drill steel comprises anchoring, by means of an intermediate covering layer, a corrosion-preventing coating consisting of a non-metallic water-resistant and resilient material to the flushing channel or flushing channel and outer surface but excluding the method described and claimed in Specification 783,526. The intermediate covering layer is defined as a,layer firmly attached to the drill steel and adapted partly to absorb the corrosion preventing layer, and may consist of a metal sprayed on to give a porous layer. The coating may be rubber or rubber-like material, or an elastomeric plastic material, or a silicone. The surface of the steel before applying the intermediate layer may be sand-blasted or pickled, nitrided, case-hardened, cold hammered, cold drawn or inductively heated while the surface layers are immersed in a coolant bath. The covering layer, after application to the steel may be treated with a corrosion-preventing substance, e.g., a solution of sodium or potassium chromate or chromic acid.
