Abstract
790,341. Making self-igniting cigarettes. KORBER, K. Feb. 2, 1956 [Feb. 5, 1955], No. 3312/56. Class 130. Ignition elements 16, 10 cut from strips fed from supply reels 17, 5 are superposed on the cigarette wrapper paper web 1 of a continuousrod machine across alternate points of ultimate severance of the cigarette rod and where circular holes may have been previously punched out of the web 1 to give slots 35 in the final cigarettes. The strips pass through guides 6 to gumming and cutting means 8, 9 and the resulting element 10, 16 are transferred by suction drums 12 to the web 1. as it passes over a support 14. In a modification, the strips are brought together after one has been gummed, and pass united through a further gumming means after which they pass to a single suction drum on which they are cut by a drum cutter and which transfers the resulting composite elements 16, 10 to the web 1. Either of the elements 10, 16 may be a primary igniter, e.g. silver peroxide, lighting frictionally or by contact, e.g. with a substance including hydrazine hydrochloride, and the other is a secondary igniter, e.g. semipyrophoric iron, transferring combustion to the cigarette.
