Abstract
A benzene hexachloride composition, rich in the gamma isomer, is obtained by forming an alcoholic solution of a mixture of the gamma isomer and at least one other isomer and adding water to precipitate the composition and separating the latter within 25 minutes of its formation. Preferably the degree of water-dilution is to 5-30 per cent by weight of water of the liquids present. The alcohol used may be a lower aliphatic alcohol such as methanol. Figures showing the optimum degrees of dilution for production of gamma-enriched mixture, are given. The process may be made continuous. An example with table of the separation of products having varying proportions of gamma isomer according to the degree of water dilution and the precipitation time up to 50 minutes, is given.
