Abstract

789,064. Road rollers. AVELING- BARFORD, Ltd. June 27, 1956 [June 30, 1955 ; June 1, 1956], Nos. 18828/57 and 16992/56. Divided out of 789,063. Class 6(1). A vibrating roller comprises a roller body mounted in a frame and a motor resiliently mounted on the frame. As shown, the motor 12 is mounted on a platform 28 and each resilient mounting 30 comprises a rubber member housed within and bonded to an annular metal collar attached to the frame 29 and to a metal core attached to the platform 28. The roller body 1 is provided with hollow stub axles 3, 4 journalled in the frame. The motor 12 propels the roller by means of belt gearing 33 and also drives a shaft 13 by means of belt gearing 17. The shaft is freely rotatable in the roller body and is provided with a reciprocable mass 27 which forms the subject-matter of Specification 789,063. A guiding handle is resiliently attached to the frame. In a modification a rotary shaft 13 having its mass centre displaced from its axis of rotation may be provided.
