Abstract

788,802. Endless troughed plate conveyers. HUWOOD MINING MACHINERY, Ltd. March 8, 1956 [March 16, 1955], No. 7672/55. Class 78 (1). In an endless troughed plate conveyer the plates 22 are secured to parallel belts 23 and the upturned ends of the plates are provided with bent-over portions 24 which frictionally engage endless driving chains 19. To prevent leakage of material between adjacent plates, each plate comprises upper and lower pressings 29, 30 which are offset relative to one another in the longitudinal direction of the conveyer band, to provide overlapping portions (Fig. 7). Each pair of plate pressings 29, 30 is secured to the belts 23, in co-operation with a bottom pressing 26, by bolts 27, spacers 28 of slightly less thickness than that of the belts being used so that the belts are gripped between the bottom pressing 26 and the pair of plate pressings. The bent-over portions 24 are provided with friction linings 25. The chains, of round-link construction, are supported at intervals along the conveying run by idler rollers comprising pairs of discs 33, the edges of which are chamfered at 34 on their inner faces to guide the vertical chain links between them whilst supporting the horizontal links. On the return run the inverted plates are engaged by idler rollers 38, which incorporate sleeves 40 of rubber or other sound-deadening material, and the chains 19 rest in the bent-over portions 24. The framework includes side plates 36 to prevent spilling of material, and further guards (Figs. 1-3, not shown), may be provided around the discs 33. The belts 23 may be in short lengths, which are assembled with a series of plates 22, leaving a space of half a plate width at each end, and then joined by hook-fasteners 31 engaged with a transverse rod 32, after which a further plate 22 is secured over the junction. The framework is also in sections, including end sections for the terminal pulleys of belts 23 and the driving and tensioning rollers of chains 19. Instead of using a single pair of chains, a long conveyer may be driven by a series of pairs of independently driven chains.
