Abstract
788,262. Collapsible tower cranes. LIEBHERR, H. Nov. 29, 1955 [Nov. 30, 1954], No. 34120/55. Class 78 (4). The jib 6 of a slewing crane with a telescoping tower 4, 5 can be folded down against the tower and the tower and jib then lowered about a pivot 25 on a rail bogey 1 so that the tower serves as a towing connection permitting the crane to be transported by road when a wheeled road axle has been secured to the rail bogey 1. As illustrated, the jib 6 is in two parts 22, 23 folded about a hinge 24 before the jib is lowered against the tower. The upper portion 5 of the tower is raised relatively to the lower portion 4 by a cable 20 passing from pulleys 19, 18, 17 either to a winch 21 or to one of the winches used for the movements of the crane. Luffing and hoisting winches 8, 9 are provided and the luffing cable 15 passes over pulleys carried by hinged arms 11, 12. The jib 6 may telescope instead of folding.
