Abstract

788,213. Refrigerating. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 20, 1956 [March 28, 1955], No. 8651/56. Class 29 A refrigerant evaporator 17 has a header to prevent surges of liquid refrigerant to the compressor, formed of a length of tubing 20, of greater diameter than the evaporator coil 17, disposed in a horizontal plane and formed with indentations 23 made by deforming the lower side of the tubing 20, liquid refrigerant collecting in the recesses between the indentations. Preferably the evaporator 17 and header 20 are brazed to separate metal plates 13 and 14 defining the freezer compartment of the refrigerator, and are connected by a pipe 18, 19. As shown in Fig. 4, after the indentations 23 are made the sides 27 of the coil 20 are pressed against the deformed portions 26 of the coil so that refrigerant can flow only over the indentations.
