Abstract
Textile materials of polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile are dyed in an acid, neutral or weakly alkaline bath with a basic azo dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0787891/IV (b)/1> in which R is an alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl group, n is 0 or 1, X is a divalent atom or a divalent group which makes up the nitrogen-containing ring to a 5- or 6-membered ring, Y is a radical of an aromatic amine or enamine capable of azo coupling and Z is an anion. Dyeing may be effected at 100 DEG C. or above. In a modification, the dyestuff may be added to the polymer solution from which the fibres are spun. Numerous examples are given. The dyestuffs may be obtained by the oxidizing condensation of hydrazones of heterocyclic ketones of the formula <FORM:0787891/IV (b)/2> with aromatic amines or enamines capable of coupling by the action of alkylating agents on azo dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0787891/IV (b)/3>
