Abstract
787.618. Buffers. OLSSON I. FALKENBERG AKTIEBOLAG, C. March 27. 1956 [March 31, 1955], No. 9579/56. Class 108(3) A buffer comprises a volute spring 8 and a pile of resilient plates 14 of rubber, each of which are provided with indentations or recesses 15 on at least one face. As shown, the buffer comprises a telescopic housing 2 4, recoil of which is limited by a stop ring 6. The spring 8 acts on the plates 14 through a stop plate 9 having a stem 10 which is adapted to engage a stop 11 of the housing part 2. Each indentation 15 is annular and communicates with axially disposed passages 16. The latter are aligned with corresponding passages 17 in the stop plate 9. On compression, air or other fluid in the indentations 15 is forced out through the passages 16, and the resultant vacuum damps the recoil. Non-return valves (Fig. 2, not shown) of ball or piston type may be provided in the passages 16 in each plate 14 to control the flow of fluid therethrough.
