Abstract

787,529. Automatic voltage and current control systems; supply systems for consumption apparatus; exciting arrangements for generators. ECLAIRAGE DES VEHICULES. SUR RAIL. Oct. 19, 1955 [Oct. 19, 1954], No. 29906/55. Classes 35 and 38 (4). In a generating system for providing current at a constant voltage and polarity, e.g. for vehicle lighting, an amplidyne generator has its excitation controlled by a vibrating-contact voltage regulator. An amplidyne generator A supplying a buffer battery B and load terminals 28, 29 comprises a series field 1, a starting field connected across the battery terminals and a control field 3. The control field is connected between the short-circuited generator brushes and the common point between a resistor 6 and the vibrating contacts 8 of a voltage regulator C, the latter elements being series connected across the generator output whereby operation of the contacts causes a reversal in control field energization. The regulator C also comprises a voltage winding 10 and a holding winding 11, the latter being energized from a shunt circuit for contacts 8 comprising a resistor 15 and an element 16 which may be linear or non-linear. A resistance-capacity circuit 13, 14 connected across contacts 8 improves the operation. The vibrating contacts 18 of a current regulator D, comprising also a current winding 20, are connected in series with voltage contacts 8 whereby the current output of generator A is maintained substantially constant until the battery voltage reaches its storage value, whereupon the voltage regulator takes over. The regulator D has a holding winding 21 and comprises other circuitry similar to that of regulator C. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the regulators have seriesconnected holding windings energized from a common circuit connected across the series arrangement of both pairs of regulator contacts.
