Abstract

769,013. Automatic current control systems. MUREX WELDING PROCESSES, Ltd. March 2, 1955 [May 5, 1954], No. 13144/54. Class 38 (4). In a generator unit for supplying the starting motors of aircraft engines, the windings of a relay are differentially energized from a reference source and by a signal representing the generator load current. If the latter exceeds the reference, the relay is actuated to increase the resistance in the field circuit of the generator, thereby decreasing the line voltage until the current drops again. Relay windings 15, 16 are energized by a voltage across a resistor 18 in the load circuit of a D.C. generator 10 and from a D.C. reference source 21 respectively, so that a rise in load current above the reference results in relay contacts 17 being opened to connect a resistor 22 in circuit with field winding 24. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the relay contacts are closed when the current exceeds the reference, thereby short-circuiting a resistor in a carbon pile voltage regulator circuit to vary the excitation of the generator. The invention is said to be applicable to A.C. generators.
