Abstract

787,506. Knitting. ATTENBOROUGH, W. B. A. July 14, 1955 [July 15, 1954], No. 20689/54. Class 74 (2). A knitted fabric is patterned by interspersing areas A, B of plain weft knitted fabric with areas C of warp knitted fabric in coursewise adjoining relationship. The fabric is produced in the piece on a straight-bar or flat machine having weft guides controlled by end stops and warp guides which are operated to oscillate between and be shogged across the needles. Additional patterning effects can be achieved by providing two warp guide bars in order to provide different colour effects in the warp knitted areas or to provide open-work in these areas or to enable the width of the areas to be varied. Wrap embroidery effects can be incorporated in the weft knitted portions.
