Abstract
A pharmaceutical composition having anti-convulsant activity comprises at least about 0.125 g. of 3-ethyl-5-phenyl-hydantoin and an orally ingestible non-toxic pharmaceutical carrier in dosage unit form. Specified carriers include corn starch, acacia, lactose, talc, stearic acid, magnesium stearate and gums. The carrier may also be a soft or hard gelatin capsule. Suspensions containing flavouring agents and suspending agents such as acacia or carboxymethylcellulose are also within the scope of the invention. In an example, tablets are formed from a granulation mixture of 3-methyl-5-phenyl-hydantoin, lactose, polyvinyl-pyrrolidone and water using sodium carboxy-methyl-cellulose, talc and stearic acid as lubricants.
