Abstract

A fungicidal paint comprises a paint normally subject to fungal attack and one or more 2,4-dichloro - 6 - (aryloxy) - s - triazines, 2 - chloro-4,6 - (aryloxy) - s - triazines, 2,4 - dichloro - 6-(arylamino) - s - triazines or 2 - chloro - 4,6-(arylamino) - s - triazines. These compounds result from the replacement of one or two of the chlorine atoms of cyanuric chloride by aryloxy or arylamino radicals; where two chlorine atoms are replaced, the replacing radicals may be derived from the same or from different phenols or amines respectively. They are effective in oil base and water base paints, and in varnishes and amounts from 0.25 per cent to 5 per cent by weight may be used. The vehicle may be a varnish type composition, e.g. a cooked combination of natural or synthetic drying oils and natural or synthetic resins, or a drying oil, e.g. linseed or tung, to which driers such as cobalt or manganese linoleate or naphthenate may be added, or a bituminous material such as asphalt in cooked combination with a drying oil. Commonly employed pigments, extenders and thinners may be used. In examples: (1) 2,4-dichloro-6-(o-chloroanilino)-s-triazine is added to a paint consisting of shellac varnish, zinc oxide, blanc fixe, Indian red, pine tar, denatured alcohol and turpentine; (2) 2,4-dichloro - 6 - (2,4 dichlorophenoxy) - s - triazine is added to a paint consisting of alkali-refined linseed oil, boiled linseed oil, red lead, zinc oxide, cobalt linoleate, silica and mineral spirits; (3) 2 - chloro - 4,6 - bis - (p - toluidino) - s - triazine is added to a composition comprising the paint base of Example (1) zinc oxide, Indian red, magnesium silicate and silica; (4) 2-chloro-4,6-bis - (p - chlorophenoxy) - s - triazine is added to a mixture of spar varnish, zinc chromate, pine tar and mineral spirits; (5) a water-base paint comprises titanium dioxide lithopone, mica, soybean protein, "Chemigum" (Registered Trade Mark) latex, soap, water and 2,4-dichloro-6 - (p - chlorophenoxy) - s - triazine; (6) a waterbase paint comprises rutile, iron oxide black, polyvinyl alcohol, water, ammonium hydroxide, partially hydroxylated terphenyl, methyl cellulose, polystyrene emulsion, Aerosol OT and 2,4-dichloro - 6 - (p - chloroanilino) - s - triazine.ALSO:A fungicidal paint comprises a paint normally subject to fungal attack and one or more 2,4-dichloro - 6 - (aryloxy) - s - triazines, 2 - chloro-4,6 - (aryloxy) - s - triazines, 2,4 - dichloro - 6 -(arylamino) - s - triazines or 2-chloro - 4,6 - (arylamino) - s - triazines. In Example 6, a water-base paint comprises rutile, iron oxide black, polyvinyl alcohol, water, ammonium hydroxide, partially hydroxylated terphenyl, methyl cellulose, polystyrene emulsion, Aerosol OT, and 2,4-dichloro-6-(p-chloroanilino)-s-triazine.
